Commercial names: Polysar Butyl (Polymer Corp.), Enjay Butyl (Enjay Chem. Co.), Petro-Tex Butyl (Petro-Tex Chem. Co.), Bucar (Cities Service Co.), Exxon Butyl (Exxon Chem Co.).
Butyl based rubbers (isobutyl and isoprene) present a very dense molecular structure, which offers a lot or resistance to the passage of gas, therefore they are particularly suitable for vacuum seal and high pressure gas applications, also presenting a high resistance to breakage. They also have good electrical insulation characteristics.
