Group U Compounds

AU, EU: polyurethane
Commercial names: Vulkollan (Bayer AG), Baytec (Bayer AG), Desmoflex (Bayer AG), Desmopan (Bayer AG), Urepan (Bayer AG), Estane (B.F. Goodrich), Pellethane (Upjohn).
Polyurethane compounds (AU polyester urethane and EU polyeter urethane) have excellent mechanical characteristics, excellent resistance to wear and high elasticity, and present low gas permeability. On the negative side, they prove to be prone to attack by chemical substances such as alkali, acids and solvents; as well as this, the interval of temperatures in which they can be used is restricted (-40°C/90°C). Due to their scarce resistance to chemical aggression it is advisable to verify their compatibility to fluids even with regards to the additives that these may contain (in both mineral oils and fuels).
